Due to Labor Shortages, Job Opportunities Abound in the Trucking Industry

If you look around, most of the items you see, or the raw materials used to make them, were transported by truck at some point. Almost everything we use was moved by a truck. Logistics Quarterly reports that trucks haul approximately 87 percent of the value of the products we rely on. The trucking industry is critical to the U.S. economy, interlacing with many other sectors. Truckers are responsible for delivering supplies to hospitals, gas to gas stations, food to communities, materials to construction sites, and much more. Yet this essential function in our economy is threatened by a growing labor shortage. Jobs for truck drivers remain unfilled, and the number of drivers needed to fill these roles is projected to increase.

New CMV Driver Medical Requirements

Starting May 21, 2014 all interstate truck and bus drivers will be required to obtain their Department of Transportation medical exam from a provider listed on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME). The new NRCME rule addresses four National Transportation Safety Board recommendations on comprehensive training for medical examiners and tracking of driver medical certificates.
